Virginia Standard SOL 3.10
The student will recognize the importance of government in the community, Virginia, and the United States of America by...
a) explaining the purpose of rules and laws;
b) explaining that the basic purposes of government are to make laws,
carry out laws, and decide if laws have been broken;
individuals.
Everyone know what a hashtag is? Well our third graders do! BUT.....if you are unclear, I have provided you with the Oxford English Dictionary's definition.
hashtag n. (on social media web sites and applications) a word or phrase preceded by a hash and used to identify messages relating to a specific topic; (also) the hash symbol itself, when used in this way.
My dear friend Lori had an idea to have the kids hashtag for content areas. AND, because I loved the idea so much we watched an introduction video on government and went to our table groups. In our groups we made hashtag phrases. The goal was to put what we already know on paper.
It was a awesome group activity and they had fun being cool hash-tagging some phrases.
