Thanksgiving Feast

We had an amazing time yesterday with Mrs. Wiggert's class. Her little pilgrims invited us to a fest and we went and enjoyed some pumpkin pie, fresh popcorn (thanks Mrs. West!), craizins, and some apple juice. It was perfect! We then went back to our room and watched, The Night Before Thanksgiving, by Dav Pilkey.

Here are my little Native Americans. Thank you to Kroger for the donated paper bags!

I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving!

Author Study: Marcus Pfister

I am determined to do a better job with author studies this year! Studying authors help students become better writer's!!! Our first author this year is Marcus Pfister! His books are so fun! The class has read almost all of his famous books and today, (yes JUST TODAY), we started and finished a project!!!!! They had to open Pic Collage App and make a collage of Marcus Pfister pictures, save it to the camera roll, Open Skitch app. They then labeled and typed words for their author poster! They did so great! Each project seems to go better and better, and................they are having fun while they are learning!!!!

Here they are!

i Learn the Sun with i Pad's

Most of Our friends have finished their Sun projects!!!! They did such a great job! They had to research using books, discovery app: sun, and the internet. They made a plan on their sheet and then opened up the app Haiku Deck to create a presentation. All of the students had fabulous team work!

Research...

Projects

I will post the rest soon!

Science Standard of Learning 1.6 The student will investigate and understand the basic relationships between the sun and Earth.
  • Key concepts include
    • a) the sun is the source of energy and light that warms the land, air, and water; and
    • b) the sun’s relative position in the morning is east and in the late afternoon is west.

Enjoy, the students worked VERY hard on these projects!

Schema!!

Schema is our background knowledge! It helps students make connections so they can comprehend what they are reading.
Here is the song that we sing, they are so great at it!

We also discuss how Spinner the Spider helps us remember to make connections each day.

We discussed how the lint roller is like our brain, picking up all the information (schema) as we learn.

Here are two journal entries, from the lesson.

We have been making text to self connections and text to text connections in class the last couple of weeks.
