What's been going on in room 22?

A couple of weeks ago we had a mixing lab to see what would mix with water. The students LOVED this experiment!!

We had 20 minutes EXTRA recess for earning 20 brownie points!!! They can earn brownie points by getting compliments, following directions as a whole group, walking in the hallways nicely as a class, etc!!! Next we are working for a popcorn party!

During our Then and Now unit we made some butter and ate it on crackers. Ten liked the butter and seven thought it was toooo salty.

We are studying about traditions right now and we call it Christmas around the World. Last week we started out with Hanukkah. On Friday we made some Latkes and ate it with applesauce! YUM!

Did anyone go to the parade on Friday? It was great! Lucas had a blast at his very first parade. I hope you are all enjoying the great weather!

a peek at into our classroom

Math Daily 5. I just wanted to share some pics from our Math daily 5 stations. After we have our whole group lesson at the carpet and we get done with our individual page, we start our Math workshop. They are doing very well with it.

Our Map Scavenger hunt (created by Mrs. Rawlins =)) Each group had a different set of clues and they had to use their map to get to the next clue. They LOVED this to the point of no return. Once we started the hunt they were VERY excited all day. lol

Our globes turned out really nice I think. They really loved them and were excited to take them home.

We have started some more technology in our classroom. We have started listening center with our I pods and using the I pad more frequently in our centers. They are always very excited to get to their Listening station during Daily 5.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!!!!

Ooeey, Gooeeyy!!!

Here is a few pics of what the kids are doing while I am teaching reading at the back table.

Here is our Oooeey, gooey mess that the most of the children loved. Some of them thought it was to oooeey and did not like getting their hands dirty. =) We are making paper mache globes!! This was our second go around, next time we will be painting!

And I will leave you with my boy. Can I say that this momma is so proud that he loves books so much! He is now OBSESSED with them, and after reading ALL day with my other kiddo's I get to read ALL night at home. =) Love it.

Science Experiments!

A week ago our class molded and baked a volcano. At the end of the day we made it explode. Here are a few pics of how it went.

Our Friday experiment this week was put of until Monday because we had some surprise visitors. Some Blackburgs Football teammates came to talk and read to our class! They were very excited.
We ended our Friday with Jaydens Birthday! Happy Birthday Jayden!
Have a great week all!

Welcome Back!!!

The first day of school was FABULOUS! We have the most well behaved, sweet, adorable kids in our class this year. We read the book First Grade Jitters. After we finished reading it we talked about all of our jitters and made some Jitter Juice to make our jitters go away.  It was also Hayden's Birthday! We had some of our Jitter Juice while we ate Hayden's birthday cookies, which were delicious.

We have also been working alot on read to someone and read to self. here are a few pictures of us practicing. Our stamina is up to about 15 minutes at a time. The first day we started it was 1.5 minutes.

Today we went on a nature walk outside to hear, feel, smell, and see what was happening with the last few days of Summer. We will do this again each season. The students LOVED this!!
