Read to Someone, Math with Someone and Randomness

I have a few positive management awards I give out every now and again. I make sure each student receives them at least one time and some can get them more than once!

Here is Miles receiving the Super Student award this week! He has been doing such a fabulous job following directions and being a great team member to classmates!

You can not really see it in the picture but....Carly received the "Mrs. Ridgley Thinks you are Super because...." award. She has also been a super great listener the past two weeks.

During Read to Someone and Math with Someone we often have to choose who goes first. With first graders this is a VERY difficult task. This week we discussed the four ways to figure out who will go first.

1. Be the nice guy or gal. This is when you just decide to be a nice friend and let the other person go first. =)

2. Thumb war

3. Paper, Rock, Scissors

4. Eeny, Meany, Miny, Moe

Here they are in action! They really did fabulous!

We finished our Citizenship unit this week! As apart of our VA state standards we teach first graders how to be good citizens for social studies. We drew ourselves on a balloon and we one by one were asked to be on the "Citizen"ship. To join they had to be caught being a good citizen. By Thursday everyone was on board!

Teaching this unit, we watched a few 2 minute clips to demonstrate what they look like.

Donor's Choose

The wonderful Amanda Rawlins who we all miss so much being at our school contacted me with some fabulous news. She found a match code for Donor's Choose. This means that every dollar you donate toward our class project will be matched, dollar for dollar!
The code is ZONKER. Just type it in at checkout time in promotions. You all are fabulous!

Just click the link below. We have $460 to go but if every dollar is matched it could really be only $230!!! We have already used our three I Pads in the room on a Seasons project that we will show off at Curriculum night! I would love to have at least 1 more so I can use them in Reading and Math Daily 5 fairly and of course do many more projects that I am dying to do.

I hope you all had a fabulous week!
